
3rd. Ups-Environmentally Friendly!

109 members of the 3rd Upminster Scout Group attended a weekend camp at Pages Wood undertaking a river clearance amongst other Scouting activities at this green field site. The Scouts set up the camp as part of their Friday night scout programme in anticipation of the younger Cubs and Beavers joining them on Saturday morning. 30 Cubs arrived from early morning setting up two large tents for their sleep over later in the day. The Beavers arrived for lunch where the cooking team of dads and leaders provided hot dogs, fruit and drinks all round.
The Cubs and Scouts had already completed their first session of entering the river by cutting through the brambles and undergrowth and going down ladders to enter the water mainly in waders. By the time the afternoon session was completed they had taken to the skip articles such as bikes, TV, car tyres, a house safe, dust bins, chairs, plastic bottles and (continued on page 2)
A Word from Scott...
I hope you all had an enjoyable summer break and those of you who went away on Summer camps had a fabulous time as I did with my Troop at the Essex Jamboree.
I am extremely pleased to report that
although we are approaching the darker, colder months we still seem to be offer those activities which get you young people outside and enjoying themselves. Our District calendar as always has been full of the usual exciting events as well as some new ones which have been introduced this year. I have listed below some of the recent events and the key people who put in so much work to make these events possible;
